The Russian Satellitese meeting coincided with the flights of the Cosmos-144 and 156 meteorological satellites, the U.S.S.R. did not announce until two months later that these satellites were part of the new “Meteor” system of weather reporting (TASS, 1967).

The Japanese GMS (Himawari)onal Space Development Agency (NASDA) in July 1973, and the spacecraft was manufactured by Nippon Electric Company in association with Hughes Aircraft Company of the United States. The first GMS, named “Himawari” (Sunflower), was launched from the United States on July 14, 1977.
